Sometimes I just want to change up dinner and try something new. I don’t know if I’m late to the party, but these potatoes are the bomb. They might be so 2014 because I think I saw these all over the Web last year. Recently, I was at the farmers market thinking that I just keep walking by Weiser Family Farms’ lovely little potatoes week after week. I hadn’t bought them in a while because I didn’t feel inspired. Then it just hit me: I must buy these potatoes and smash them. And so I did. Revelatory.

This recipe has to be one of the only family recipes that I haven’t tinkered with. The recipe is simple and perfectly balanced as is. This is a rare family recipe that actually comes with precise measurements. So many of my family’s legendary old recipes seem to be just a list of ingredients without measurements or directions.
Sometimes the green vegetable is not the star of the meal. Like on Thanksgiving it’s all about the turkey, the stuffing and the other carbs. And on Hanukah it’s all about the potato latkes and applesauce. Yet I still want to serve a green vegetable to round out the dinner. In such cases, this green bean dish is my “go-to” recipe. While I’m busy making all the other dishes, I want the vegetable to be quick and easy to prepare.
These adorable chocolate lollipop centerpieces are quick and easy to make with the kids. The lollipops make such cute centerpieces for spring holidays like Passover and Easter.
I remember making homemade molded chocolate with my grandma Shirley when I was a kid. Making candy was always a fun project. As an adult, I inherited my grandma’s candy making molds and stored them for a long time. Recently, I came across the molds, and it’s been such a joy to share them with my kids. My grandma would have been thrilled to watch my little darlings make chocolate with her molds. I get a little “verklempt” (emotional) thinking about the tradition continuing.
This year I have an outstanding edition to our usual Passover menu– Flourless Nutella Chocolate Cake. This chocolate cake recipe is the best cake I have ever made. It’s flourless, so it’s perfect for Passover. But don’t just serve it once a year. This cake is an impressive finish to any dinner party. What’s amazing about this cake is the texture. My friend Jody called it “Nutella cloud fluff.” The cake has a surprisingly light and smooth texture that I just want to savor. My family is going to flip when they taste it.
Potatoes are the answer to that yearly question, “what am I going to cook for Passover?” Instead of focusing on what you can’t eat during Passover, enjoy what you can eat, like potatoes. Passover is an opportunity to get creative in the kitchen, like 20 Los Angeles food bloggers did last week at a potluck […]
