Sometimes I just want to change up dinner and try something new. I don’t know if I’m late to the party, but these potatoes are the bomb. They might be so 2014 because I think I saw these all over the Web last year. Recently, I was at the farmers market thinking that I just keep walking by Weiser Family Farms’ lovely little potatoes week after week. I hadn’t bought them in a while because I didn’t feel inspired. Then it just hit me: I must buy these potatoes and smash them. And so I did. Revelatory.

My Family’s Apple Harosets Recipe & What Passover Is Really About
This recipe has to be one of the only family recipes that I haven’t tinkered with. The recipe is simple and perfectly balanced as is. This is a rare family recipe that actually comes with precise measurements. So many of my family’s legendary old recipes seem to be just a list of ingredients without measurements or directions.

Honey Mustard Chicken with Apples, Butternut Squash, & Brussels Sprouts
There’s nothing better than a one-pot dinner on a hectic week night. This Honey Mustard Chicken with Apples, Butternut Squash, and Brussels Sprouts can even be prepped ahead. I was feeling like I was in a rut making the same entrees for dinner each week. Adding this dish to our winter dinner lineup has livened up my repertoire. My kids get excited when this dish hits the table.

Italian Crispy Beans: Soft on the Inside, Crispy on the Outside
When I travel, I enjoy visiting open air markets and love to check out the produce and spices. What’s available in the market reflects the food culture and traditions of the country. I also like to get a feeling for the people as they go about their daily shopping. When I was in Italy in the summer time, I became intrigued by these fresh borlotti beans. They were so colorful, and I’d never seen fresh beans in their pod before. When I took a cooking class in Italy, the teacher Alessandra was so kind and incorporated the fresh beans into the menu for me.

The Best Ever Lentil Soup (My Secret Ingredient is Parsley Root)
I love lentil soup in the winter because it’s warm, comforting, and filling. But let’s face it, lentil soup can be a little plain. When I designed this lentil soup, I added a few ingredients to give it a little something more. The extra flavor comes from herbs, spices, parmesan rind, and parsley root.

A Healthier & Rustic Apple Crisp that Won’t Ruin Your New Year’s Resolution
Dessert should taste delicious. It is what it is– a treat. I don’t like desserts that you have to qualify: “Well, it’s, uh, pretty good for a healthy dessert.” That just won’t do for me.
Recently, I brought this simple, rustic apple crisp to dinner at my friend’s house. It just doesn’t seem like a healthier dessert because the natural flavors shine through.
